Why blogging, why now?
Many people who know me and my legendary aversion to Facebook might rightfully ask, " So, Bryan...why blogging, why now?". Good question, and not one with an easy answer. In what seems like a lifetime ago, I fancied myself a writer at a time when writing involved putting pen to paper or rolling a sheet into a typewriter. Since then, the world and how it communicates has changed in ways that few foresaw even twenty years ago. Luckily, my intemperate lust for snappy techno gadgets has enabled me to somewhat stay in touch with these changes, although I often feel like the fat guy at the back of a race, panting while struggling to keep up. Long story short, I recently purchased an iPad, and one of my justifications for the ridiculous price was that it might drive a new love for writing. Since my kids were born in 2006, life has felt like an emotional roller coaster at times, often giving me plenty of excuses to avoid writing, the one thing that can fill that part of myself that no amount of busyness can touch. As my personal life has gone through much change, so has the world when I look around...in ways that both delight and scare me. So, the answer to the title question is probably the same for all who write at any time and by any method...to help make sense of the world.
